Inclement Weather Procedure

Your child’s safety is our top priority, so on snowy or icy days at approximately 3:30 am, school leaders go “on the road” to assess travel conditions. We consider street safety, outdoor temperatures, and the pending weather forecast when deciding to cancel or delay the start of school. We try to make this decision as early as possible to allow enough time for families to make child care arrangements.

School closings, delays, and early dismissals are reported to local television stations and announced on the district social media sites (Twitter and Facebook), as well as our website, as soon as the decision is made.

Information regarding early dismissals will also be communicated via our One Call notification system.

Please ensure that we have current contact information for your family so that you may receive these and other important notices.

WHEN SCHOOL IS CANCELLED, all afternoon and evening activities (other than athletics) are cancelled as well. The decision to continue with athletic events is left up to the principal and/or athletic directors at each school based on the potential conditions at game time. The school calendar includes information about make-up days.

WHEN A TWO-HOUR DELAY IS CALLED, all school starting times and a.m. bus pick-up times will shift by two full hours. The school day will, however, end at the normal time and p.m. bus routes will run on the regular schedule. Afternoon and evening activities will continue as planned unless weather conditions worsen. Decisions about making up the time missed for a delay will be made on a case-by-case basis in accordance with current state guidelines. In the event of a two hour delay, morning session Preschool will not attend. Kindergarten will follow the 2 hour delay schedule and will end at the regular time. Afternoon session will begin and end on time.

WHEN SCHOOL IS DISMISSED EARLY, we will make every attempt to dismiss high school and middle school students first so that older siblings can arrive home before younger ones and to allow more time for parents of younger children to make child care arrangements.
