Changes to Electronic Media Access
In compliance with HB 208, which amends KRS 156.675, the district will now prohibit access to social media through school technology, including school-provided Wi-Fi networks and devices. This restriction applies to all students unless a teacher provides explicit authorization for instructional purposes. This change is intended to minimize distractions and enhance the educational environment.
Staff and Student Electronic Communication
In response to SB 181, which creates a new section of KRS 160, the Jessamine County Board of Education has designated a traceable communication system as the exclusive means for school employees and volunteers to communicate electronically with students. This system ensures all communications are monitored and provides parents with the ability to review them.
Unauthorized electronic communication, such as personal text messages, social media direct messages, or other unapproved applications, is strictly prohibited.
The only exception is for communication between a student and a family member (as specified by SB 181) who is also a school employee or volunteer.
Families who wish to provide written permission for a staff member or volunteer to electronically communicate with their child can complete a waiver to allow communication outside of the designated platform.
The primary designated communication platform for Jessamine County Schools is ParentSquare.
This new policy aims to increase student safety and transparency in communication, with no anticipated financial implications for the district. Click Here to review the suggested changes to Jessamine County School Policy Number 08 2323
