PUBLIC NOTICE: INTENT TO APPLY

RE: Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) Application

Notice is hereby given that Nicholasville Elementary intends to apply for the Nita M. Lowey 21st CCLC Cycle 23 grant administered by the Kentucky Department of Education.

The purpose of this application is to secure funding to establish a Community Learning Center that provides students with academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours (after school and summer). In accordance with grant requirements, the program will focus on improving academic achievement in math and reading, providing enrichment activities such as STEAM and character education, and offering literacy and educational development services to the families of participating children.
Public Input: We welcome community input regarding the design and development of this proposal. If you have suggestions or would like to review the program goals, please contact Brittany Cox at brittany.cox@jessamine.kyschools.us.
The final application will be submitted to the Kentucky Department of Education by January 20, 2026.

Earlier this month, our academic team completed individual content assessments as a part of the pre-season Governor's Cup competition administered by the Kentucky Association for Academic Competition (KAAC). We are excited to share that KAAC has recognized Meredith Mays and Nathan Stevenson for their performance! Meredith placed among the top 30 of 331 testers statewide for general knowledge, and Nathan placed among the top 30 of 357 testers statewide for mathematics. Congratulations, Meredith and Nathan!

Shout out to Mrs. Gayheart’s class for being the first class to purchase a Donut Party with their Pony Bucks! Students worked together and saved up an impressive $1,000. Way to show teamwork and responsibility!

They’re also rocking some amazing holiday headbands as part of our Spirit Week. We love seeing the school spirit and positive choices!

Mrs. Reynolds’ class had an extra special day thanks to a visit from Mrs. Shirley and the Grinch!

Celebrating 5th grade student, Peyton Marcum, for her strong work ethic! Her ability to persevere in class shows!

We are incredibly proud to celebrate Cora, a student who consistently demonstrates the qualities of Responsibility from our Graduate Profile!

Cora goes above and beyond, showing that being responsible means being accountable for your actions and dependable in your commitments.

NES will be closed for Thanksgiving Break from Wednesday, 11/26 through Friday, 11/28. We hope all of our students and families enjoy a safe, restful, and fun break! We’ll see everyone back on Monday, 12/1!

Underground Dress Up Week at NES was a hit! Staff rocked themed days. We had, Flannel Monday, Turkey Tuesday, Dress Like Someone You’re Thankful For Wednesday, Spirit Thursday, and Black Friday. All of this was a surprise to students to spark fun and teamwork. Check out these pics of our creative staff showing off their NES spirit!
