Last week, we celebrated our amazing CRA, Kelly Helton, for National Assistant Principals Week—and highlighted her love for animals. Today, she lived that out once again.Ms. Helton, a former biology teacher, found a Polyphemus moth in distress on the front steps of our school. She brought it inside to warm up, making sure it was okay before gently releasing it in a nearby wooded area. Polyphemus moths are large, beautiful silk moths with striking eyespots on their wings. Though they only live a few days as adults, they’re a rare and magical part of nature. Just another example of Ms. Helton’s kind heart and thoughtful leadership, always looking out for those in need!

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and today, some of our seniors helped raise awareness by planting blue and silver pinwheels on campus. These pinwheels, part of the national Pinwheels for Prevention campaign, symbolize the happy, healthy childhoods every child deserves. Their display serves as a visual reminder of our community’s commitment to protecting children and promoting awareness.

Wrapping up Assistant Principals Week with someone truly unforgettable...Mr. David Riddle! Mr. Riddle is the kind of leader every school needs: grounded, compassionate, and always ready with just the right movie quote to lighten the mood. His sense of humor lifts spirits, but it’s his ability to truly listen, problem-solve, and connect with all that sets him apart. Whether he’s helping navigate behavior challenges or just being a collected presence in the middle of a hectic day, Mr. Riddle leads with heart and purpose. Students respect and trust him because they know he sees them, hears them, and believes in them. We’re so thankful for all that he brings to East: the laughter, the wisdom, and the steady leadership.

We are so proud of our students who were accepted into the Kentucky Governor’s School for the Arts (GSA)!!Your creativity, dedication, and hard work have earned you this incredible opportunity, and we can’t wait to see all you’ll accomplish this summer. To everyone who auditioned, whether you were selected or not, we are proud of you. It takes courage to put yourself out there, to share your art, and to chase your dreams. GSA is one step on a journey, not the destination. Keep creating, keep growing, and know that your talent and voice matter. We celebrate all of you today!
