It takes a special kind of heart to navigate the highs and lows of a student’s journey, and we are incredibly lucky to have two of the best in the business.

As we celebrate National School Counseling Week, let’s take a moment to shine a spotlight on Mrs. Kim Watkins and Mrs. Samantha Wilson. They are the quiet architects of our school’s well-being, working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure every student feels seen, heard, and supported.

If Mrs. Watkins or Mrs. Wilson has made a difference in your child's life, here are a few simple ways to show some love this week:

  • A Quick Note: Have your child write a "Thank You" card or draw a picture.

  • Send an Email: A short message from a parent/guardian letting them know their hard work hasn't gone unnoticed goes a long way.

  • Comment on Facebook: Drop a quick thanks in our comment section on Facebook.

  • The "Shout-Out": Encourage your student to say a quick "Happy Counselors Week!" in the hallway.

Let’s make sure Mrs. Watkins and Mrs. Wilson feel the appreciation they deserve for everything they do for our school family!

History in the Making! ☕️🌊

Our 5th-grade historians are taking a deep dive into the American Revolution—literally! Combining Social Studies with STEM, students are being challenged to recreate the Boston Tea Party with a high-stakes twist.

Given only a tea bag, a strict budget, and a variety of materials, these young engineers must design and build protective crates. The goal? Their crate has to float and, most importantly, the tea has to stay bone-dry even when submerged!

We are so proud of how our students are embracing this challenge, using critical thinking and perseverance to solve real-world problems. Congratulations to our successful "Sons and Daughters of Liberty" whose tea survived the harbor!

Reading, reasoning, and a little bit of mystery! 📚✨

Our 1st and 2nd grade students recently dived into the story of The Quacken. After enjoying the tale, these young learners put their critical thinking skills to work by correctly sequencing the story's events.

At JCS, we believe excellence is achieved when every student is engaged on an individual level. Seeing our students grow into effective communicators as they share their knowledge of the story is what the JCS experience is all about!

Building Big Thinkers: 3 Digits, Many Strategies! 🧠✨

Our 2nd graders are reaching new heights in math! 🚀 Last week, these young mathematicians took on the challenge of adding 3-digit numbers. Whether they are using base-ten blocks to "see" the numbers, breaking them down with expanded form, or jumping along open number lines, our students are proving that there’s more than one way to find a solution.

At JCS, we celebrate "Excellence for All" by meeting every student where they are and encouraging them to embrace challenges. We aren't just solving for "X"—we are building the Critical Thinking and Work Ethic skills that will last a lifetime!

Check out these snapshots of our students in action as they collaborate and grow together. 📸

Symmetry in Action! ❄️📐

Our 4th-grade "high-level thinkers" are diving deep into the world of geometry! Students recently explored the beauty of line symmetry through a hands-on challenge during STEM. Using geo-mirrors, they practiced creating intricate, balanced designs, and then took their skills to the next level by studying the unique patterns of snowflakes.

The highlight? Bringing it all to life with KEVA planks! Students collaborated to build their very own symmetrical snowflakes, proving that math is just as much about creativity as it is about calculation. At JCS, we prepare our students to embrace challenges and explore their passions through active, engaged learning.
