Due to the hazardous conditions of several county roads and a cold weather advisory issued for tomorrow, Wednesday, January 22, 2025 will be NTI Day 7 for Jessamine County Schools. Wind chills are expected to drop as low as -10 to -20 degrees and ensuring the safety of our students and staff remains our top priority.
JCS childcare at NES will be open for students who are pre-registered for NTI care. AD’s and principals will communicate about athletics and extracurricular activities.

Our team has been hard at work assessing road conditions today and has identified several areas with ice, making these roads too hazardous for our buses to travel safely. With additional freezing likely to occur overnight and a cold weather advisory in effect for tomorrow morning, student safety remains our top priority. Traveling to alternate bus stops and waiting in the predicted temperatures could pose additional risks. We are taking every precaution to ensure the well-being of our students and staff.
As a result, Tuesday, January 21, 2025, will be NTI Day # 6 for Jessamine County Schools. Childcare at NES will be open for students who are pre-registered for NTI care. AD's will communicate about athletic practices and games.

A special shoutout to our amazing Maintenance and Custodial crews for their hard work preparing for cold temps, clearing snow and ice, and making repairs, and to our Transportation team for going above and beyond to get students safely back to school. While the number of roads that our buses are unable to navigate has decreased, a few remain and JCS will utilize an alternate transportation plan for Friday, January 17, 2025. We expect to resume normal bus operations on Tuesday, January 21st following the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Should additional inclement weather impact operations, we'll notify families of any changes.

What an incredible day of learning it was to have our students back in school and we loved seeing so many smiling faces! We’re pleased to share that 93.33% of our students were in attendance today – a higher percentage than at the same point (our 86th day) last year! In addition, 8,100 nutritious meals were served to students today!
While the majority of our routes ran smoothly, a few roads became more difficult to navigate overnight. Our transportation team worked to adjust, and in some cases, district administrators stepped in to transport students in district vehicles.
As we assess the benefits and challenges of the alternative transportation plan, although not perfect, we’re encouraged by how well it worked today. While this plan impacted only about 1% of our families, we remain committed to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to attend school.
We want to take a moment to recognize the hard work of our county roads department, who continue to improve road conditions and want to also thank our families who adjusted plans due to alternate stops or cancellations.
