✈️ WJHS Takes on Boston at Harvard Model Congress!

West students are currently in Boston participating in Harvard Model Congress — the oldest and largest student-run government simulation conference in the United States! HMC gives high school students the opportunity to experience American government firsthand through immersive, hands-on learning. But their trip has been more than just committee sessions and debate! While in Boston, our students have:

📍 Explored history at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum
☕ Reenacted the legendary Boston Tea Party
🏠 Walked through history at Paul Revere House
🍰 Grabbed world-famous cannolis at Mike's Pastry
🎓 Enjoyed dinner and a Q&A session with Kentuckian and Harvard Law School student, Will Randolph

This experience is an incredible opportunity for our students to engage in civic leadership, deepen their understanding of government, and connect classroom learning to real-world history. We are so proud of the way they are representing WJHS — learning, leading, and making memories in one of America’s most historic cities! ❤️

Today is all about twinning — not just in what you wear, but in how you treat others.

When you twin with someone, you reflect each other’s style. Let’s take that a step further and reflect kindness everywhere we go — in the classroom, in the hallway, and especially online.

The Art Club was recently challenged to create a piece of art that transcends itself — something that goes beyond canvas and color to tell a deeper story. After thoughtful discussion, the group knew exactly what they wanted to create: an abstract portrait honoring Mr. Daugherty.

We could not be more honored to dedicate this piece to someone who has made such a lasting impact on our school community, Mr. D!

👯‍♀️ Twin Day is Tomorrow for Kindness Week! 👯‍♂️

“Mirror Your Manners: Be Kind, Online & Offline!”

Dress like a twin with a friend and remember — kindness should reflect in everything we do, both in person and online. Let’s focus on digital citizenship, respectful communication, and showing empathy even to those we may never meet. 🌎 Be the example. Be the mirror. Be kind.

“Switch It Up, Lift Them Up: Serve with Kindness Today!”

Today, we’re focusing on showing appreciation to the people who support us every day — our families, friends, teachers, and neighbors — and extending that kindness into our wider community.

Kindness starts close to home. Write a thank-you note. Lend a helping hand without being asked. Say the words “I appreciate you” and mean it. Then, take it a step further — hold the door, offer a compliment, support a local business, or look for a way to serve someone in our community.

When we switch it up and choose to serve others, we truly lift them up.

Let’s show that kindness isn’t just something we talk about — it’s something we live. Gibby says it best!

Kindness doesn’t just begin with how we treat others — it begins with how we treat ourselves.

Yesterday, we focused on self-compassion, mental health, and self-empathy. That means giving yourself the same patience, understanding, and encouragement you would offer a friend. Here are some thoughts from a couple of our WJHS students about what helps them the most in moments they may need a break, support, or encouragement!

Tomorrow for Kindness Week, we’re “switching it up” in more ways than one — because it’s also Teacher/Student Dress Reversal Day! 👔🎒 Students dress like a teacher/staff and teachers/staff dress like a student. Have fun with it!

But beyond the fun, tomorrow is about serving with kindness. 💙

“Switch It Up” means stepping outside your routine — sit with someone new, help without being asked, write a note of appreciation, or thank someone who doesn’t always get recognized.

“Lift Them Up” means showing gratitude to those closest to you — friends, teachers, family, teammates — while also engaging with and supporting our wider community.

Hold the door.
Send the text.
Say thank you.
Offer a helping hand.

Let’s have fun and remember that the best way to stand out is by lifting others up. 💫
