You know the drill: It's "Business in the front, party in the back!"...at least for the suits! 😂 The tradition of Senior Composites continues as the Class of 2026 put on the velvet wraps and suits and smiled for the camera! One step closer to graduation!

It’s National Principals Month! 🎉 We asked Mr. Thornton some questions to help us learn more about the leader who guides WJHS. Thank you, Mr. Thornton, for all you do!

*What inspired you to become a principal?
I was a Social Studies teacher, which I enjoyed, but wanted to look to do something else to expand my work with students.

*If you weren’t a principal, what job would you want?
I am not sure...I would want to do something outside or hands-on. Maybe work at a National Park somewhere.

*Why do you love WJHS?
I love it because we have such a strong student community. Our students want to excel in so many areas and make me proud to be associated with them.

*What’s your favorite part of the school year?
I love the late spring, as we gear up to end the year- prom, graduation, etc. It's a time to celebrate all the hard-won victories and exciting milestones that conclude a demanding year.

*Tell us a little about you!
I am in my 26th year of education- my 8th year as head principal at WJHS. My wife, Elizabeth, and I have 3 boys- Sawyer (12th), Luke (10th), and Levi (4th). Our family and our faith are important to us. We stay active with all of the sports our boys are involved in. We've made Jessamine County our home for the last 12 years and look forward to many more!

Stop, drop, and head to Jessamine County Fire Station 2! 🔥🚒

Today, Ms. Whelan's class had an exciting field trip where they learned all about the brave firefighters and the essential work they do to keep our community safe. They even got to test out some of the equipment! A huge thank you to the dedicated team at Jessamine County Fire Station 2 for hosting us! We truly appreciate you taking the time to educate our students!

A huge crowd showed out last night to support our WJHS boys soccer team who took on Covington Catholic in the Sweet 16 first round of State. Though the Colts did not come away with a win, they fought hard and we couldn't be more proud of these student athletes! Way to go, West!
